Q&A: Why 'The Archives of BFF' and not 'The Archives of Switch'?

Author Response:

It is just too on the nose. But let’s be real. This is a very real question with an easy response.

Because Switch is BFF.

Now from 2013 to 2018~2019, I told maybe three people about the story of TABs. Oh and you should be jealous that some girl I knew in middle school knows all the detailed lore of the 2013-2014 era by the way. Anyhoo Switch was never really called Switch. Never did I utter the name Switch in any of my hour long tangents with random classmates during free time.

So where did the name Switch come from?

Now no shade to the guy who I told while I attended animation school, though his comment did strike a nerve. I told him the lore of TABs leading up to 2018. It was like explaining years of soap opera content in one class period. And then he asked me, “What is the group’s name?”

Sis I said, “BFF,” and bro cringe. Word to my mother, I thought nothing wrong with the BFF name. At least when I was a youngin, the word BFF was used everywhere. I never thought the acronym ‘Best Friends Forever’ or ‘Best Family Forever’ was a cringe, outdated slang.

He told me I should pick a new, more marketable name to market BFF to the world because during the time I was working on a very unhinge, fanfic-like, nowhere-near-canon TV pilot script.

So I decided to look for another name while still keeping the BFF name for my own personal interest. This was a hard process despite being a K-Pop blogger/news reporter at the time. I listened to so many boy, girl, and co-ed bands and for copyright reasons, so many names were taken.

I looked at K-Pop, American, European, V-Pop, J-Pop, P-Pop, Kazakhstan pop for any inspiration. All I had to show for was Up10tion and I didn’t even listen to their music like that.

So I decided on Switch because the members of BFF switch their lines a lot and was a common plot theme in 2018 because no one was satisfied with their line distribution during that time.

But wait? Isn’t there a 70s group called Switch?  Yes and I got one of their albums on vinyl. I didn’t put two and two together at the time. By time I did… It was too late in my opinion. I was kinda used to the Switch name already, despite still moving in the lore with the BFF title.  So that why its called The Archives of BFF.

So now you know.
