[Spoilers] The Harsh Reality of Jean and Rebecca’s backstory
Spoilers obviously. Do not read unless you read Volume One, Two, Seven, and the B-Plot graphic novel. This is a major spoiler alert. If you are not caught up, bookmark or download this page for later.

Jean and Rebecca’s story line did not originate from V.C. Andrews Flowers in the Attic (crazy ayo series by the way.) . May the Lord be my witness, I didn’t know about the Flowers in the Attic series till November 20th, 2025 and I finished the core draft of volume seven a few months ago and published volume one and two over the last two years prior.
The Jean and Rebecca storyline is a storyline I've known about for years now and it wasn’t till today, November 21, 2025 (as I write this), that the Lord revealed to me why that storyline even exists. In my younger years, I knew two separate sets of siblings who had their story in real life.
Back during the days before I knew the real Jean and Rebecca, there was a ton of kiddos who lived on my block. While social media was only in its Farmville phase, people still went outside to play. One of the most popular spots to play in the military-heavy (dudes walking around with ak-47) gated community, was the big playground in the lower income neighborhood.
Kindergartners to early high schoolers play at the big playground. We all would play tag, freeze tag, more tag… tag… maybe freeze tag again. War was a popular game as well. But there was one game that was played way too much at the playground. More than tag or freeze tag. It was the infamous game of ‘House’.
For context, House is a roleplaying game, typically played by children and teenagers. You play the role of a member of a household. You can be a dog, or a cat. There is the option to be a sister or a brother, an uncle or a grandma. Or you can be the mother or father.
That’s where Jean and Rebecca’s storyline came from.
You should have seen my face when I would see my friends (brother and sister) roleplaying as a married couple on the break of a divorce. I couldn’t tell if they were mimicking their parent’s relationship or had wild imaginations. Though as a child, I saw nothing inherently wrong with the game of House (at first). Actors and actresses. That’s a thing I thought. But these two friends of mines would often forget that they are siblings.
My parents became furious and overprotective once word got around that the game of house was trending in the neighborhood. It was then that I found out that another pair of siblings were ‘playing house’ as well at the big playground. Then I remember another older girl was having a thing for her cousin who was visiting for the summer. It was crazy. My parents actually ended up banning me from ever going to the big playground without a chaperone. Which kinda work out cause I met real-life Vanessa (mixture of a few people) at a different playground.
You might be wondering… why was this phenomenon happening? I don’t know. The neighborhood was diverse. From Samoans to Puerto Ricans to Filipinos to African Americans to White People to the United Nations, it was a melting pot. But one thing that was pretty consistent was everyone's home life was different.
I remember me and my friends went to ring our other friend's door bell, saying, “Can _____ come outside to play?” Each time we did it though, we became more and more frightened to ring the door bell because from the outside we could hear our friend and their siblings getting beat by their abusive father. The man was hitting them so hard you can hear it from multiple doors down.
Or the siblings who were playing house. I didn’t know much about their home dynamic but I know they spent hours playing house at the playground. I’m talking about playing from the sun up to the sundown. Why? I have no idea but they were committed to the fake marriage and soap opera lore behind it.
I think the House game was carried out for months. It was so bad I was stuck playing at the swing set, digging my way to China in the sandbox. I use to remember, looking off to the distance and seeing the once lively playground turn into an incest pool that probably turned into someone’s CPTSD because the game Doctor had gain its popularity as well. I played Doctor once and the most I got was a bandage on my knee. I was too weirded out to really play along and I think that was the Lord protection because I later found out Doctor was a disguise sexual abuse game. Once again it was the siblings mostly playing this game, not non-blood-related individuals because they were too busy riding their bikes around the neighborhood or climbing a tree.
I like to clarify that the real life Jean and Rebecca that I knew in real life did not have the House storyline. They aren’t even related but they were just as aware of the situation as I was.
To this day, I don’t know how the game of House got popular and how it reached a low income gate community but it did. Maybe because people were always moving in and out. In relation to The Archives of BFF series, you can clearly see the side effects of Jean and Rebecca’s relationship through the novels with Volume Two and Seven being the most revealing of them all.
Though their experience is not a blueprint to everyone’s experience.
If you were a victim of the game of House or Doctor, I recommend that you seek counseling or speak to a trusted-mature adult. If you don’t have anyone to talk to about it, just remember The Good News and let Jesus point you to the right direction.
