The Archives of BFF

The dining hall was crowded all day long. Homework is pretty inescapable when having to deal with child labor laws in the state of New York. Even though homeschooling is convenient, its also hard for no reason. Only Maknae Line get the privilege of attending a private school in-person (two days out the week) while the rest of us have to do online.

Not to mention it is now a requirement for everyone in Switch to be fluent in at least two languages. Fluent!!! Tour season is coming up and apparently Mr.Smith is nowhere near interested in hiring a translator.

 

         “This is so unnecessary,” Zachary pouted.

Jermany took off his glasses in despair.

         “Tell me about it,” he agreed.

Zachary stood from his seat and took a mini trip to the front door to see if Mr. Smith was hiding somewhere in the house. Taking a quick glance outside, the coast was clear. No black car in sight.

​

         “CLOSE THE DOOR!” Jackie yelled from the sofa.

         “WHO YOU YELLING…at,” Zachary held his tongue once he notice who was talking to him. Quickly he apologize and shut the door.

​

         “Its 15 degrees outside. Be for real.”

         “Sorry. I didn’t know you were in here. Why aren’t you in the dining hall with everyone else,” Zachary asked.

​

Jackie lifted her textbook in the air.

She said, “I have failed my trigonometry test three times already because of dance practice. Every since I got added to Trio Line, I have been struggling to study. I… I just need some alone time.”

​

Zachary glance over to the kitchen to see if anyone was going to come out to the living. Discretely he asked, “Are we still on for tonight?”

​

         “Tonight?,” questioned the interviewer.

 

         “Yeah. Let’s just say I was pretty booked back in 2013. Not my most proudest moments in life…” Jackie hesitated.

Jackie paused and pondered on whether or not she should take Zachary’s request. Though since she and he was so dead in their flesh and spirit, Jackie agree on Zachary’s offer and payment.

​

Zachary said, “Awesome. Um… Well come into the dining hall. I have announcement to make. An announcement to make as lead singer.”

 

Jackie squint her eyes lowly.

         “What would that be?”

         “You’ll see.”

​

Making their way into the dining hall, Zachary went to the back of the room and stood on a chair.

​

         “ATTENTION!”

​

Every head turn to Zachary. Carlos was confuse by Zachary’s summoning as he slowly stood from his seat.

​

Zachary looked at Carlos, wondering why he wasn’t standing by his side.

         “Oh! You… want me to… okay.”

Carlos maneuver his way down the walkway to Zachary’s side.

​

         “What do you want,” Dice yelled from the other side of the room.

​

Zachary clear his throat and said, “I have a proposal. I think we should get our GED and call it a day. Why do high school? We don’t even get to experience homecoming, football games, winter parties, or prom. Why go through all the headaches of doing school when we can be free!”

​

Brionna laugh a bit, “Uh most of us… or at least those in Varsity Line are in our senior years, our last semesters of school. Why all of a sudden should we get our GEDs?”

​

Zachary raise his hand a bit, “Well because none of us can go another three to four months of homework and exams as tour season picks up. I mean JV Girls, Rap Line, Duo, what do you think?”

​

Zachary glance at Jordyn, hoping she would make a statement but she remain quiet.

         “I think,” Vanessa said standing up slowly, “I think JV Girls should get our GEDs. Some of us are Sophomores, others are Juniors. However, I don’t think any of us want to do any homework while on tour.”

​

LeeSung stood up, and everyone sigh.

         “Whoa, whoa! I have a right to speak,” LeeSung said offended.

Rebecca yelled from JV Girl’s table, “You graduated two years ago. What could you possibly have to say!”

         “I graduated one and a half years ago so… If Switch doesn’t work out long-term, where are any of you guys going to work at? Most places required some kind of high school equivalency.”

Maxwell stood up.

He added, “He is absolutely right. What if our contracts end prematurely.”

​

Zachary gave a small clap for Maxwell.

         “Exactly. Hence why we should all just study really hard for the next week or two and take the GED. Then there will be no more school. Right Carlos?”

​

Carlos was completely zone out. He was still trying to recover from his midnight recording sessions for his new solo album that in the works.

​

         “Right Carlos?” Zachary said again.

         “YES! Yes. I think we should all have chili for dinner today. Its cold outside and… yeah… It will taste good.”

​

Zachary rolled his eyes, feeling very annoyed.

         “What about our language classes?” David asked.

​

Lily stood up, requesting to speak.

She replied, “We can teach other. Zachary and I are fluent in French. Jean and Rebecca are fluent in Spanish. Cameron is great with Japanese, and LeeSung first language is Korean… I mean as long as everyone chooses a language that you are most comfortable with or KNOW someone in the group who already fluent in it, then we should be good.”

​

LeeSung added, “She has a point. Some of us already speak to each other in different languages. So lets make it a habit to officially speak in code. The more we talk in the language that we are all practicing in, the better and quicker everyone become fluent and stay fluent.”

​

After some deep consideration, everyone agree to sign up for the GED test, despite some members only being 15 year old. It was better to attempt the test than to balance high school and work. Better than dropping out for sure.

​

After the discussion, Jordyn walked over to Zachary.

         “Can I talk to you? Alone?”

         “Sure.”

​

The two went to the dance studio to chat.

Sitting on the cold wood floor, Jordyn shyly asked, “You must had got the email?”

Zachary got a bit silent as he stared at the floor.

​

         “Yes…”

 

There was a long pause in the stiff air.

​

Jordyn continued, “Is that why you suggest that everyone should get their GED?”

​

Zachary pause before gaining the courage to speak, “If you don’t want to… follow with what the email said… we don’t have to… you know…”

         “Be force into a public romantic relationship and take center stage as Switch’s powerhouse dance couple?”

                  “Well when you put it like that…”

​

Jordyn lightly push Zachary.

         “This is serious Zachary. I can’t… I love to dance. I love it so much, but in fine print, I can’t accept the role without dating you. If I don’t accept the role-”

​

         “They will give it to Jackie… I read it,” Zachary said.

​

Jordyn folded her arms tightly.

She hesitated to continue, “I… do not want Jackie to take my place.”

​

Zachary looked up at Jordyn in question.

He asked, “Do you not want her to take your place as my dance partner or my romantic partner…”

​

Jordyn froze, wishing she could take back take back her words.

         “I don’t know. But I do know that it makes since why Ex-Records would choose her as a second option. She was suppose to be the original lead singer of Switch and your dad doesn’t…”

​

         “Stop,” Zachary plead, “Let’s not jump to conclusion. It was just a rumor.”

         “Was it a rumor?” asked the interviewer.

​

Zachary glanced at Jordyn and the rest of Switch off screen.

​

         “Maybe. I mean no. It was true. Ex-S Records wanted me to be in deep relations with Jackie but my father wouldn’t allow it. He wanted me to be with Jordyn and he would continually pay Ex-S Records to make sure I never dated anyone else in the group.”

​

Jackie sat off screen feeling a little uncomfortable by Zachary’s comment. Matter fact everyone was. It was shocking for everyone to find out that Zachary and Jordyn’s relationship was force together.

​

         “Did not have a crush on Jordyn? In other archive entries, you fancy her very much,” asked the interviewer.

​

Zachary replied, “I did like Jordyn but I never got the chance to fully fall in love with her because there was so many outside forces, forcing me to date her. I wanted it to all be organic.”

Zachary looked at the clear door and saw that the JV units were waiting to have practice.

​

         “We have to make a decision today before practice starts. Do you want to accept the role or… not?” Zachary asked.
