“Hi my name is Xan.”

Young Xan was sitting in a dark cold hallway inside the Ex-S Records headquarters. There was about seven other teenagers waiting in the narrow quarters.

Xan tried to introduce himself to his competition but no one seem interested in socializing.

“Very rude,” Xan discretely said in Portuguese.

Pushing back his thick black frame glasses, he was quite shock to see a young lady coming off the elevator. She was very direct and professional as she carry herself to the small crowd.

Xan crack a smile bit and quickly fix his collar.

Smoothly, he walk his way to the brown skin girl. Coming closer he heard that she was listening to some Hindi ballad music.

Tapping on her shoulder, she jump.

“Woah, not trying to scare you,” Xan said.

Taking out her wired earbuds she said, “Um hi. My name is Lisa Devi.”

         “Xan.”

The two shook hands firmly.

“So you are a prodigy?” Xan questioned.

Lisa eyes wondered a bit, “Uh yeah I am. If I wasn’t I would had got pass the front door security.”

         “What’s your specialty?”

“Music composure and sound engineering. What’s your?,” Lisa said assertive.

“Music composure, sound engineering, and leadership,” Xan said.

Lisa gasp a bit, “Since when could someone be a prodigy in leadership.”

“I was the manager of James and the Silhouettes.”

         “You’re lying.”

“Very much. I been recruited to be a potential apprentice for Switch’s manager.”

Lisa folded her arms as she examine Xan.

“I guess. What school did you go to?”

Xan folded his arms, “Saint Peters High School. 4.8 GPA.”

“Private boarding school. So you’re rich?”

“I had a scholarship and a grandma who didn’t want to babysit me anymore.”

         “Was it a music school?”

         “No.”

Lisa drop her arms in confusion. “So how are you a prodigy in music composure and sound engineering? Who taught you?”

Xan replied, “No one. I learned from watching OurTube videos. Then I started producing a couple of songs from my dorm room. What? Did you go to some fancy school?”

“I went JulliArts Boarding Academy. Top of my class.”

Xan was shock. “Oh so you’re rich.”

“Just an ophan with a scholarship.”

Suddenly an older lady came out to hallway.

“Excuse me! May everyone please come inside the room. Please also turn off any cellular devices.”

The nine teenagers walked into a grand executive meeting room. Their was a very large wooden round table and diamond vinyl plaques hanging on the wall. Xan and Lisa decided to sit next to each other.

A few moments went by before three black suit men came into the room.

The lady handed them all a file of each candidate. One of the men was black with a shiny bald head. He kept looking at each files then at the group of teens.

He said, “If you are attending a boarding school right now, please raise your hand.”

Everyone raised their hand.

Xan and Lisa were shock as they held their hand high.

He continued, “You are all here because our music collective, Switch, needs some musical talent who can live on site with the members. You will be responsible for producing their next few albums. If you are not willing to leave your current boarding school for this, once in a lifetime opportunity, please leave now.”

No one got up.

         “Okay. Let’s hear your songs.”

Time went by as everyone listen to each others mixtapes. Everyone had to prove their talents in various different genres. This included R&B, hip-hop, pop, EDM, classical, swing, Latin, and world.

It wasn’t long before people started getting cut. Then it was down to Xan and Lisa.

The three executives were in love with both of their styles and clean transitions between each mix.

“Where are you from Xan,” asked one of the executives.

“Sir, I am from São Paulo, Brasil. I am currently on a student visa for school so I will need sponsorship.”

One of the executives replied, “I am sure that you are aware of Rap Line’s Leo.”

Xan joked, “Sure in some ancestry test, we might be related.”

         “Well are you?”

Xan smiled faded a bit. Memories started to come back about the Switch recruitment rumors.

“Leo and I are not related.”

“Are you sure? We ran a background check. Your last name is Oliverira-Junit. Leo’s last name is Sanchez-Junit.”

Xan fix his glasses a bit as sweat started to come down his shoulder blades.

Xan respond, “Allegedly we have the same dad according to my grandmother. That’s all.”

“Does he know that you are related to him?”

Lisa looked at Xan as she sat on the edge of her seat.

         “Its best that he doesn’t.”

“Well in that case, welcome to Switch. Lisa.”

Lisa quickly rose. The executive said, “Your work is amazing and quite impressive. You will work alongside Xan as his co-partner. However you will be responsible for all Varsity production.”

         “OH THANK YOU!” Lisa cheered.

“What about the apprenticeship opportunity with Mr.Smith,” Xan asked.

“Your first day is next week.”

Once outside of the building, Xan was in great shock.

“Xan wait,” Lisa said as she watch Xan jump in excitement.

“I got to pack my bags. What are my classmates going to think of me?”

         “XAN!”

         “What?”

Lisa looked at him confuse.

She asked, “Are you actually Leo’s brother?”

Xan stop to catch his breathe while he places his hands on his head.

         “Long lost brother. Allegedly.”

Lisa took a step back, “Didn’t even know he had a brother.”

Xan closed his eyes as the cold air brush his skin.

Lisa thought,“Wait. So are you his big brother or little.”

“I am a year older but I am not his big brother. Allegedly. He had a older brother but he died.”

Lisa took Xan’s hand and the two walked across the street to Central Park.

         “Tell me everything,” Lisa asked.

“I just met you three hours ago,” Xan said.

“And now we are partners who will be living together. Speak,” Lisa said.

“Tell me everything about you and I may tell you something about me,” Xan offered.

Taking a seat on the cold bench, Lisa said, “Well I am originally from Long Beach. I had a regular life in the suburbs until my parents got deported to Mumbai. I was going to join them but suddenly I got accepted into JulliArts in sixth grade. So I went and a month later they got into an accident. My guidance counseler said that they went to Heaven but my classmate said they went to Hell because they were agnostic. Um yeah. To cope with my family lost, I started getting very deep into music composer.”

Xan nodded his head, “I’m… sorry for your lost.”

“So who the brother?” Lisa asked, switching the subject.

Xan took out his phone. A few moments went by as he scrolled through his gallery. Discretely he show a photo of a tall brown skin young adult. He had to be no older than 20 years old.

“This is my alleged older brother. According to my grandmother, he took care of Leo after my deadbeat father neglected them in San Francisco. I don’t know much about him or Leo. All I know is that Leo witness his brother commit suicide. My grandmother said that he was going through a bad breakup. Some girl cheated on him and it wreck his mind to the point of death.”

Lisa placed her hand on his hand.

         “Sorry for your lost.”

Xan reject her hand with quite offense.

He said, “I’m not related to Leo. I am not his brother. Never met the guy. We just happen to have the same grandmother. I mean… I could had met him after the whole shooting. He was suppose to move to SP but he got recruited into Switch the next day.”

“Well maybe it is God plan for you two to unite.”

Xan buck an eye at Lisa.

“I thought you were an agnostic.”

“Me? My parents were agnostic. I am a Christian.”

“Oh… Well even if its God plan, I don’t plan on telling Leo that we are -”

“BROTHERS!?!?!??” Leo cried off camera.

Xan was in the hot seat, trying to hold his emotions as the secret “should had been burn” archive was read aloud.

Leo’s face was furious as Simon and Jean held him back.

“ITS ALL ALLEGE! I can’t confirm that we are related,” Xan said trying to act innocent.

The cameraman pull the camera back to widen the angle of the heated discussion.

“You knew we had the same grandmother?!?! Why? Why didn’t you tell me? Why am I just now finding out?!?!”

Xan started to choke on his words, “I don’t know! You- You are the one who never talks about your past! Why should I be the one to trigger you? I saw how Jean was with Rebecca so….”

Jean put his hands up in defense, “Woah don’t pin me in this.”

“I thought I had no family left!” Leo said as tears roll down his eyes.

“JUST BECAUSE WE HAVE THE SAME GRANDMOTHER, DOESN’T MEAN WE ARE RELATED!”

         “YES IT DOES!” Leo cried.

Xan’s eyes wander to the ground in great despair. Sammatha came up to Leo and tried to calm him down.

“You are in denial Xan,” Leo said.

         “Am not!” Xan yelled.

“We have the same father!” Leo cried.

In great frustration, Xan started to shed a tear with great shame and guilt overcasting him. Taking his mic off, Xan quickly dismiss himself and left the room.

As Xan was leaving, David was coming in eating some ice cream.

“Oh he is finally done?” David sloppy asked Lisa who was approaching him.

“Not now,” Lisa said before running out.

Taking a look around, David notice Leo off to the side crying while Rap Line and Sammatha and I were trying to get him to calm down.

Playfully, David walked up to Jackie.

“Why is Leo crying? Did we get to the 20[blank] entires?”

Jackie quietly responded as Leo’s wails became louder, “We are no where near those entires. We barely made it to 2013 and Leo just found out that Xan is his long lost brother…”

         “Oh…"
